For the 2022 ID.4, Volkswagen increased the starting price of the base model by $765 to $40,760. Also, the 2022 ID.4 will have more range.
Volkswagen (VW) is entering the second model year of its all-electric SUV, the ID.4.
The 2022 ID.4 comes with several changes, including more range and faster charging.
Across the three trims, the 2022 ID.4 costs $765 more than it did in 2021.
The Pro trim starts at $40,760, Pro S at $45,260, and Pro S with Gradient at $46,760. Additionally, VW charges a $1,195 destination fee.
To get the starting prices, you’ll need to shop around. Since the ID.4 is popular and in high demand, some dealers marked up the electric SUV by nearly $10,000.
Aside from the price increases, Scott Keogh, CEO of VW of America, stated that a cheaper version of the ID.4 is in the works. It’ll start at around $35,000 and have a smaller battery pack.
The powertrain remains the same for all three trims of the 2022 ID.4.
With rear-wheel drive, the ID.4 has an output of 201 horsepower, and all-wheel drive increases it to 295 horsepower.
VW claims that the EPA-estimated range will be higher than the current 240 to 260 miles. However, VW hasn’t provided the exact figures.
Additionally, the 2022 ID.4 will come with a more powerful onboard charger. Instead of being capable of 125 kilowatts, it’s increased to 135 kilowatts.
Several weeks ago, VW announced Plug and Charge for international versions of the ID.4. Now, the 2022 model made for the U.S. will also get it.
Plug and Charge will be delivered in an over-the-air update. The update will also come with an auto-hold feature for the parking brake.
Overall, VW is making great improvements to the ID.4. The cheaper version with less range will likely go on sale in 2023.
The 2023 ID.4 will be made in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and SK Innovation will supply the battery cells instead of LG.
