The Chevrolet Equinox EV is a sleek and sporty compact SUV that’ll arrive in fall 2023 with a starting price of $30,000.
General Motors (GM) revealed Chevrolet’s latest electric vehicle (EV), the Equinox EV.
It’s a sleek compact SUV with a starting price of $30,000, which will make it one of the cheapest EVs on the market.
“The Equinox has always played an important role for Chevrolet as the second-highest selling brand nameplate,” said Steve Hill, Chevrolet vice president. “Providing an affordable EV option in the industry’s highest volume segment proves Chevy is going to make EVs available to everyone.”
Chevrolet will launch a fleet and retail version of the Equinox EV, including LT and RS trims. It’ll also use GM’s Ultium Platform.
The Ultium Platform is GM’s latest battery technology, also used in the GMC Hummer EV and Chevrolet Silverado EV.
The Ultium batteries are unique because of the large-format, pouch-style cells capable of being stacked vertically or horizontally.
It can accommodate energy options from 50 to 200 kWh and potentially 400 miles of range.
The electric Silverado will offer 400 miles of range and cost around $100,000. With the Equinox EV starting at $30,000, the range will likely be closer to 200 or 300 miles.
The Equinox EV could rival the Kia EV6, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Volkswagen ID.4, Hyundai Ioniq 5, maybe the Tesla Model Y, and the newly-announced Chrysler Airflow EV Concept.
GM also announced a Blazer EV. Since the new EVs are built on the Ultium Platform, GM will likely phase out the Bolt EV and EUV, as they’re built on the old platform.
The Equinox EV is an exciting vehicle. It has a sleek design with large display screens inside.
There aren’t concrete details about the battery capacity and performance specifications, but that’ll become available in the coming months. Chevrolet’s Equinox EV looks like it’ll have a promising future.
