GM announced the all-electric Chevy Silverado, which goes into production next year. It’ll be one of the few electric pickups.
The Chevy Silverado is one of America’s best-selling trucks. Today, General Motors (GM) revealed the new all-electric Silverado, which goes into production next year.
GM will launch the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV with two configurations, the RST First Edition, and a Work Truck (WT) version. Both trims will have more than 400 miles of driving range.
The Silverado EV will join Ford’s F-150 Lightning, Rivian’s R1T, GMC’s Hummer EV pickup, and potentially Tesla’s Cybertruck, as the growing number of available electrified trucks.
For performance, the Silverado EV will have an output of 660 horsepower, 780 lb-ft of torque, and a zero-to-60-mph time of 4.5 seconds.
Both, WT and RST will be capable of standard DC fast charging up to 350 kW. GM estimates that fast charging adds approximately 100 miles of range in 10 minutes.
The WT trim will have 10.2kW of offboard power and RST will have it with optional equipment.
The specifications for the Silverado EV are similar to the Hummer EV because it uses a similar powertrain.
The WT trim will start at $39,900, and the RST First Edition will start at $105,000. GM states that other trims will be available for $50,000 to $80,000 as production increases.
GM plans to launch two other electric vehicles following the Silverado, the Equinox EV, and Blazer EV, which will be around $30,000.
Chevrolet will launch WT first to fleet customers. The WT will offer 8,000 pounds of towing and 1,200 pounds of payload.
Then, Chevrolet will launch a fleet model with up to 20,000 pounds max trailering with the max tow package.
Chevrolet’s RST First Edition will have the following features:
- Four-wheel steering.
- Automatic adaptive air suspension.
- Multi-Flex Midgate, which expands the truck’s cargo capability while maintaining seating for a rear row passenger.
- A large, 17-inch-diagonal LCD freeform infotainment screen.
- An 11-inch-diagonal reconfigurable driver instrument display.
- A multi-color driver head-up display with a field of view over 14 inches.
- Trailering-capable Super Cruise for hands-free driving on more than 200,000 miles of compatible roads across the U.S. and Canada.
The RST First Edition features a massive 200 kWh battery pack, which explains the high price tag.
Inside the Silverado EV is a spacious cabin with innovative technology.
GM stated, “Upon entering the vehicle, a bold 3D animation appears on the RST’s large 17-inch- diagonal LCD freeform infotainment screen, which is paired with a neighboring 11-inch-diagonal driver instrument display. Together with a driver head-up display with a field of view over 14 inches, a driver can’t ask for more information at their disposal. With new, hands-free start, the vehicle turns on automatically after the driver enters with an enabled device, leaving hands free to buckle up and get on the road.”
Chevrolet also began taking reservations for the Silverado EV today.
